Floor Accessories - Types and Variety

Thresholds

It's not uncommon to have uneven flooring surface for two connected rooms. It's rather trendy to install more than one contrasting floor materials all over the house. However, an abrupt change of surface or the flooring material looks messy and unprofessional, especially in the living room. Toddlers require a smoother and more consistent surface while learning to walk, and due to age and tired bones, the same requirement goes for the older family as well. Hence, the threshold comes in the picture where it erases any uneven partition of rooms and makes the transition a lot smoother and seamless!

Types of Wooden Thresholds are as follows:

Hardwood Cover Strip can be used for various flooring types – hardwood, solid laminate, tiled and many more as long as the surface height is even on both ends. You can also use these Hardwood strips on the edge of the room for the beading as it's also an alternative to Scotia or Quadrant.

Hardwood Cover Strip

T-Section is similar to a Hardwood cover strip as this can also be used for any flooring type as long as the height of the surface is even on both ends. Some of the common flooring options which go with it are hardwood, laminate, tile and many more.

Hardwood Wood-Carpet Bar is an ideal moulding for homes with different flooring transition. If one room has carpet while another has wooden flooring, Hardwood-Carpet Bar is the answer! It can also be used for other surface combinations like tile to carpet transition.

Hardwood Capet-Vinyl Bar is similar to Hardwood-Carpet Bar! It's an ideal option for carpet to vinyl transition. It further adds a glamorous look since the wooden bar comes right in the middle of Carpet and Vinyl which gives you a classic combination of three contrasting flooring materials.

Hardwood Ramp is your go-to option if you have a major height difference between two connected rooms. Hardwood in one and vinyl in another? The Ramp is the answer! Not to forget that ramp is more unique as compared to the regular bars and therefore looks fancier!

Carpet Bars

A Hardwood Carpet Bar is the perfect moulding if your flooring is covered under the warm layer of carpet everywhere. It holds the carpet in place to provide a smooth flooring surface. Don’t have a carpet flooring? Don’t worry, the bar can be used for any surface! You can also use them over the stairs, commonly known as Carpet rods, where they were traditionally used to hold the carpet in place to eradicate any possibility of tripping over the treads but today their prime role is to make your stairs look stylish and fancier.

Stair Nosing

It is really important to install Stair Nosing over the edge of your treads since stairs support constant foot traffic. The stair nosing diminishes any possibility of slips which is a must especially if you have children who often like to run and also older family who might walk with a shuffle in their steps. Not to forget you get different styles to choose from, such as rounded nosing and square edge nosing! The variation allows you to keep the style and your preference while maintaining the safety of your steps.

Beading

People often get confused between beading and skirting. Let's be clear on that first!

They both are the strip that runs along the base of the wall and the perimeter of the room. However, the minor difference is that the skirting covers the wide gap between the wall and the flooring which not only retains dust if left opened but may also make room for some wiring! While on the other hand when you get new flooring installed it leaves a gap between the floor and the existing skirting. That gap is covered by beading.

Now, there are two types of beading, Scotia and Quadrant! They both do the same job but are differentiated on the basis of their shape and appearance. While Scotia gives you a concave curve, Quadrant gives you a convex curve. The choice between the two entirely depends on your preference and liking.
